Blog Every Day in May: Rant about something.

The topic said: " Rant about something. Get up on your soapbox and tell us how you really feel. (a pet peeve, a current event, a controversial topic, something your husband or roommate or neighbor or boss does that really ticks you off)"

Oh. This is going to be easy.  I work retail (at Walgreens..) , and I've been a loyal employee for 3 years.  I don't always like my job, but I do realize that I'm lucky enough to have one, and so when I go in, I do the best work that I can.

That being said..it really ticks me off the way some people treat us.  Not all customers.  I have quite a few that I truly like, and who come and look for me.  I'm talking about those that ask me questions like (and I'm being serious) "Shouldn't you be in college? Didn't you want to be something?"  Umm. Yes..actually ..I did want to be something..employed..so here I am.  There are people that talk down to us, and treat us like pieces of crap because we work there.  There are also those who are my "favorites" and treat us and talk to us like were unintelligent.  Most of us went to college, and there are a few in college currently   We are not unintelligent.  I had a guy the other day (no lie..) ask me this..just like this : " DO YOU HAVE AANNN IIIRROONNN MAAANNN MMAASSKK".  Iron man mask was all drawn out as if I didnt understand him.  I decided i'd play his game (after I showed him where it was) and say "YOUR WEELLLCOOMMMEEE" just in case he didn't understand me.

I've witnessed my managers (the female ones especially) get cursed out, and called vile names, all because we wouldn't return things, or we didn't have the sale item in stock.  Really? Does it make you feel good to belittle someone because we don't have the 2/5$ soup you wanted?  Is your life that dependendent on making someone else feel like crap , because you know we cant curse you out back?

Retail employees have feelings too.  Despite popular belief  I didn't crop your head off your photo on purpose (i'm a photo tech, and its a common complaint when people print pictures from iphones).  We try our best to give you the best service we can, and the saying "You get more with honey then with vinegar"  is true.  If you treat us kindly and with respect, we'll do the same.  Treating us like crap only makes YOU look bad..not us.  Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.   Imagine how stinky our world would be without garbage men.

We get shat on all day, and cant talk back.  Do you know how much self control and skill that takes?

Think of how you would feel if we walked into your place of business and called you a b*h for something you have no control over?

So in conclusion..please treat everyone with respect.  That now concludes my rant.
