Sunday Social Week 36!

Hi all..This week has been rough. My daughter and hubby both came down with the flu..when we're supposed to be packing to move..ahhh.

1. What was your first car?

umm..ok. so i haven't had my first yet.  Some daddy issues and rebellion kept me from getting my license, that and the fact that I live in Westchester   We're lucky that we have an very good public transit system and up until I had my daughter I never needed a car. The hubby does have his license, and when need be, we borrow our inlaw's car.  But for me, I've never driven or had that "first car" experience

2. Who was your favorite childhood teacher?

Mrs. Adler at Hauppauge Middle School, and Mr. Backelman of PCHS. Both were English teachers who wouldn't take my crap. When I did bare minimum ..they pushed me to do more and work harder. They greatly influenced me, and I appreciate them for that.

3. Were you involved in any sports/extracurricular activities? Share pictures if you can!

No..hahaha. I left the sports to my twin.  However, I did volunteer at Big brothers/big sisters. I earned a whole credit and a half!

4. What was your favorite birthday party?

My 25th. My husband threw me a surprise birthday party , and even invited my family! My brother was supposed to show up..but did..however that didn't stop the epic uno games we played.

5. Who was your teen celebrity crush?

Johnathan Taylor Thomas! I loved him hardcore! Had his pictures up on the wall and whatnot..even a calender   90s kids..u know what I mean.  Smart and good looking? Yes please!

6. What show/movie did your parents not allow you to watch?

Believe it or not..Rugrats. I KNOW. They thought the blond girl Angelica was a bully.

My wedding ring and a photo album..so I could remember how good my life was before i got stuck on the dang island.

3. If your house was on fire what two things aside from family, pets, etc would you grab?

My Ipad and my camera

4. What are your two most favorite articles of clothing?

A cute owl shirt that I got from Target (like $5), and a hat Victoria knitted for me.  Love them!

5. What two movies that you saw in the past year would you recommend to us?

Ahhh. I dont go to the movies unless its something I REALLY want to see. I dont have the patience for it 

6. What are your two biggest guilty pleasures? 

HAHAH. Actually, I like to visit TripAdvisor to read crappy reviews of this crappy place we went on vacation (they're hilarious!) , and I go to hellocotton every single day to catch up and read new blogs..its kind of addicting...

Sunday Social! Week 34!

Time for another Sunday Social yall! Good news! We're moving back to Greenwich! Yah baby! Time to get packing!

On to the questions!

1. What is your ideal way to relax?

Honestly, its at a really nice hotel, in a place I've never been.  I can be in the middle of nowhere, but as long I'm away from home, and in a nice hotel, I'm totally relaxed..

2. Where is your favorite place to be?

Anyplace my family is.  My hubby J and I have been together 9 (NINE!) years (married for 5.  So needless to say we've spent quite a bit of time together already, and I wouldnt trade it for the world.  My family is what makes everything worth it. So as long as they're where I am..I'm good.

3. Who do you consider your biggest role model?

Umm..my mother.  Even though she passed when I was very young, I have a lot of good memories of her, and my family has done a good job of letting me know who she was. She always created a sense of family, and made sure my brother and I felt loved and safe.  She was involved in my school work, and made sure I was never hungry.  I aspire to be as awesome as she was. 

4. What does your life look like in 3 years?

I honestly cant say.  Nothing in my life has worked out the way I thought. I like to just go with the flow.  Keep trying to do better. I hope in 3 yrs were at least in a two bedroom, and have a killer job.

5. If you could go back and change one decision, what would it be?

Finish College! AHHH I regret it so much! Now that I know what I want to do, I cant do it (silly kids and work getting in the way..)

6. What is your biggest accomplishment in life so far?

My daughter.  Having a child is everything you think it is.  Its sleepless nights, saggy boobs, and the most beautiful smile you've ever seen.  I've never worked so hard at something my entire life, but its been sooo worth it.

Sunday Social Week 32!

Hello all!  Time for another Sunday Social!  Whats up?!  All week we've been apartment hunting, but things are looking up! *fingers crossed*.

This weeks questions are all about our blogs!

1. What is the name of your blog? How long have you been blogging?

The name of my blog is Siren Makeup.  It was originally named Moms Makeup Min, but I ended up renaming it before it had any followers.  I was inspired by the Sirens of greece..the way they drew sailors in.  Makeup draws me in the same way:)

2. Why do you blog?

I blog as my creative outlet.  Its a place where I can escape from being a mother & wife for a little bit, and connect with others who share my passion.  I also enjoy being able to share a little bit of my knowledge with others. I love writing, and I love makeup, so it was only natural I would eventually blend the two!

 3. What is the first blog you ever followed?

Pammy over at Pammyblogsbeauty.  I followed her on twitter and discovered that there was a whole beauty blogging world out there! She's still one of my favorites!

4. What is your favorite post you wrote in 2012?

 My Mom wore Blue Eyeshadow.  It was the most  personal post I've written to date. 

5. What are your blogging goals for 2013?

To blog more, and diversify what I blog about.  Instead of doing reviews as a majority, do more fotd, eotd, stuff on brushes, etc.  

6. Name your top 3 favorite blogs.

Sunday Social Week 1!

Howdy! Its time for another Sunday Social! Grab some hot cocoa, and lets get to know each other for a bit!

This week for me was quiet.  We had some snow (which of course required snowball fights), and other that, my family and I are still recovering from Christmas and New Years (soo many toysss!!)

This weeks questions are all about the new year!

1. Do you plan to change any of your eating habits in the new year?

I would like to try to cut down carbs (though its hard..I love my pasta..). Also, I'd like to try to eat breakfast more.

2. Any workout tips to get us back in shape after the Holidays?

MAKE IT FUN! I like to jog around my apartment (tiny as it is) for 30 min a day (a few times a week).  I do it while my shows are on, so I jog in place around the tv, race my little one around the house.  If you're enjoying what you're doing, then it doesnt seem as hard. 

3. What is your favorite thing you did over the Holidays?

Without a doubt, the trip out to LI.  I spent the whole time with my cousins, grandma, and hubby, and it was grand! 

4. What is something you hope that you accomplish in 2013 that you did not in 2012?

 I'd like to get a better job, and move into Greenwich. Those are the two biggies.

5. Name 3 things happening this year you are excited about and why.

1)Excited to be moving back to Conn. (It means a nicer apartment-Yay!)

2)Excited to be spending more time with my cousin. She and I have reconnected as adults, and as adults, we are both awesome.

3) I'm actually not overly excited about this, but my little girl will be starting school this year. While I'm going to have some serious seperation anxiety, I'm excited for her to make friends, and have fun. The first few years of school are very important, so as much as I hate admitting it, my girl is growing up :/

Sunday Social Week 30!

Hello all! Time for another Sunday Social! Lets all sit, grab a cup of something warm ( I like tea), and get to know one another. 

 First, I apologize I was mia last week! I got the greatest Chritsmas gift ever-a  whole weekend visit with my family! My extended family live out on LI which is about an hour or so away from us.  Without a car, and with all of us having full time jobs,  its difficult to find time to get us all, as a group, together at the same time.  We rented a beautifully expensive hotel room , and had a crap load of fun. My daughter (Mrs. I'm so shy, I'm invisible, dont look at me!), actually had fun, and interacted with everyone there.  It was a Christmas miracle! That being said, it left little time for blogging. But I'm back and recharged!

This weeks questions are all about New Years!

1. What is the best New Years Eve you've ever had?

I'm not a big party person ,so this answer is going to be quite boring.  It was the first New Years after hubby and I got married.  We were married for about 2 weeks, I was pregnant, and he and I were going to stay up and watch the ball drop.  He fell asleep, and I remember thinking that that year (2008) was going to be the start of something awesome (and it was:)

2. Are you doing anything for NYE this year and if so what?

Working!  I work retail, and Walgreens in particular is really really bad about making its employees work holidays.  Walgreens never closes. EVER. So I will be working NYE and New Years Day (NYD), but can someone say hoilday pay? yeah baby! 

3. Name a book we should all read come January?

I dont read things that would usually be thought of as "Good books".  However, in the interest of putting myself out there here goes: 

Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach

ITS NOT WHAT YOU THINK! (umm actually maybe it is..but dont get turned off by the name Stiff..lol)  Its a hilarious look at what happens to cadavers   What? You're not curious?  It delves into the history of anatomy  and what happens to the dead bodies after they're all taken apart and whatnot. They're not just dead lab rats..cadavers have been sent into space.  I feel like everyone should read a book like this just for fun. We can all use a little hilarity (and useless information) once in a while.

4. What are your new years resolutions?

Hmm..I'm really bad at keeping these (and remembering what they are later in the year).  I think though, this year should be the year of fun.  Get into our new apartment (apartment hunting suucckkksss), and then focus on having our daughter experience things, go places, and just do any and every fun thing imaginable.  She's 4 now.  This is the time.  Oh, and more date nights for the hubbs and I .  MiniSirenN isnt a baby anymore..no more guilt about leaving her with grandma.

Sunday Social Week 28!

Hello all!  Its that time again for another Sunday Social. Sit back, grab a cup of cocoa and lets get to know each other better!

 Unfortunately this week ended badly. The Newtown CT Tragedy happened only 2 hours away from my town..  I dont know what I would do if I was a parent at the school..getting a text that something had happened at my daughters elementary school...  We should all hug our kids and those we love extra hard this Christmas. 

Today's questions are all about our likes!

1. What is the wallpaper on your cell phone?

Unfortunately I have an android phone, that will (apparently never) be updated. I'm still on Gingerbread, while everyone else has passed ice cream sandwich and is on Jellybean.  Which means no screenshots.  BUT i have an ipad, and I'm a genius, so here's a picture of my phones wallpaper haha.  (and a screenshot of my ipad for fun). I love Classic Coke and Classic Santa!

2. What do you keep beside your bed?

Actually , because we have no room in our place, its just a window, and my daughters princess tent (no bedside table-thats for when we move..haha)

3. What is your least favorite chore?

DISHES. They're never ending, and they come out of nowhere. No matter how many times a day I do them there's always MORE.  AHHHHH!

4. If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine, what would it be?

Going to work.  Its a 5x a week thing. I wish I could just not go, and still get paid. I like doing the homemaker thing.  I wish we could get paid for that!

5. What do you do to vent anger?

I take a walk around my neighborhood.  Especially now that its in the 30's daily, the cold air and walking up and down hills really clears my head.  OR I yell and scream at the offender. Both work.

6. What is your favorite holiday of the year and why?

Christmas.  Before MiniSirenN was born, I was pretty indifferent to all holidays. But then, she was born, and suddenly I *got* the purpose of Christmas. Its the joy of giving, and being good to others.  Its the look on my childs face when she says "Santa got me what I wanted!" Its believing in something you cant see, but you have faith that its true.  I love it.  My hubby and I work all year for that one moment where she opens her gifts:)

Sunday Social Week 27!

Hello all! Time for another Sunday Social post! How was your week? Mine was unevenful. Work, a little Christmas shopping. 

 This weeks questions are holiday themed again!

1. Favorite Holiday Movies/TV Specials?

I love Miracle on 34th st, and The Grinch!

2. Do you do any volunteering during the holidays if so what? If not what would you do?

I dont volunteer, but we always have the "Toys for Tots" box at my job.  So since we always have the "buy 2 get 1 free" toys, I try to donate a toy every winter.  I also give money to those Salvation Army people with the bells.

3. Favorite toy received as a Child for the Holidays?

Hmm..It'd probably have to be my rocking horse. I asked for a horse for Christmas and woke up with this:

This one is from the 60's (source) but it looked JUST like this!  I would feed it, and even sleep underneath (i dont know why underneath, but i did..).  Eventually it was given to my moms best friend who (at the time..) had 4/5 kids and loved it just as much as I did.

4. What was your must have item in high school for the Holidays?

I remember the "must have" being two things: Tickle Me Elmo and a beeper.  The Tickle me Elmo was released in 2001 (I was in 11th grade).  You werent cool if you werent walking around with a red Tickle Me Elmo, with a beeper tucked into your pocket (on vibrate of course).  I never got the Tickle me Elmo, but I did have a kick ass teal beeper that let you leave messages (that translated into text when I received it).

5. Item you begged for the most and never got?

Car. Fooey on you dad. 

6. What do you do on Christmas Eve? If you are Jewish what does your family do for Hanukkah?

Every year I end up working, and then the family and I head over to my mother in laws and exchange gifts.  My child of course ends up getting the most .  But honestly its just really nice getting together, and spending time with everyone:)

Sunday Social Week 26!

Time for another Sunday Social!  This week was awesome! Tuesday was my birthday (someone got jewelry..;) ! We went out to eat with the inlaws, and had a great time.  Then Saturday my cousin came to visit, which is always fun.

Todays Sunday Social is all about the holidays!

1. What is your favorite holiday season tradition?

Now that MiniSirenN is here, I love leaving notes to her from Santa (I can disguise my handwriting .no worries), and baking cookies for Santa. 

2. Do you have a certain holiday movie you watch more than others? If so what is it?

Miracle on 34th St!! I loved that movie growing up, and I love it now!

3. Show us your favorite decoration or pinterest decoration you wish you could have

Its the tree! Putting the tree up is my favorite part of the whole year, and is the BEST decoration in our small apartment.  Ornament wise, we like unconventional things (like a Homer Simpson keychain!)

4. What is your favorite holiday song?

I have two! Jingle Bell Rock, and Rockin' around the Christmas tree! The classic verstions, not the redone ones now.  I love classic Christmas music!

5. What is your favorite holiday dessert?

I dont do desert.  I like my sweets, but usually I dont have cake and whatnot. However, I am partial to hot chocolate and a nice slice of pound cake:)

6. What is on your wish list this year?

First is to move back to Greenwich-find a nice place to settle, so my little siren can go to (my) dream elementary school.  Then, just to have a happy and healthy year!

Sunday Social Week 25!

Hello All! Its time for another Sunday Social post!  This week was AWESOME.  Surprise baby shower, Thanksgiving, and an early Christmas Playdate for MiniSirenN!  It all made for an incredibly fun week.

*They're all retail but they paid the bills! Plus at one point I did 3 of these at once!

*Dont judge me for the movies..lol.  I have a little one.  Tangled in particular has a great soundtrack, and I love Pascal!

*No, I did not just live these places a few weeks.  I've legit lived in these towns for years.   As a kid I moved around a lot, and as it happens, we're actually planning on moving back to Greenwich..  

4.Name 4 of your favorite foods.

-Chinese (Chicken & Broccoli!)

-Wedding & Engagement Rings .  I never take off my wedding ring though I have been known to take off my engagement ring.  Sometimes fingers swell!

-St. Maarten & Puerto Rico (it was on a cruise, and it was awesome!)

* Unfortunately, Seaside was very very badly damaged in the Hurricane, but I hope to go back this summer. Lake George is a regular vacation spot for the 3 of us.  Its nice and cool up there in the summer, I have extended family up there, and to be honest, the hubbs and I are history nerds, so we love visiting the fort.

Sunday Social Week 24!

Hello All! Time for another Sunday Social post! Sit back, and lets get to know eachother a little better. This week was pretty awesome. I cant say what it is yet..but its going to be awesome:) Also we're all gearing up for Thanksgiving!

This weeks Sunday Social is :

What are we thankful for?

1. My family: Without my hubby and daughter (MiniSirenN), I'd be nothing, and have no purpose.  They make me want to be better, bring me joy and laughter. My extended family and inlaws as well bring me so much joy and happiness..I'm very lucky.

2. Chinese food.  Especially the fast food kind..and always chicken and broccoli.  Its impossible to mess up and its always delicious.

3.My Girls: MiniSirenN's playgroup friends & their moms, SirenV , Cousin SirenK , and SirenG.  Without a group of girlfriends, this gal's life would be very lonely and a lot less happy. 

4. Walgreens.  Yes Walgreens.  They are my employer , and without them, I wouldnt be able to help support my family (for the record, I'm a Photo Specialist/Beauty adviser).

Sunday Social Week 23!

How was your week?  We got a nor'easter!  Nor'easter Athena.  We got about 2in of snow, and MiniSirenN loved it! However, seeing as we had just had a hurricane pass through, the nor'easter snarled traffic, and there's a gas shortage going on. Fun!

On to the Sunday Questions!  This week is about Thanksgiving!

1. What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory?

My favorite would have to be back when I was 13.  My birthday is Nov 27th, and that year it happened to land on Thanksgiving.  I love Thanksgiving in general (The family..the gratitude..the turkey!), but to have cake on top of it was a huge bonus. The whole family (my dads side at least) was there, with cousins, and even my grandparents.  They are all excellent cooks, so I took advantage and ate as much as I could.  It was delicious!

2. What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Everything!!  Love stuffing, turkey, mashed potatoes, veg...all of it!  I love especially eating it all at once on my fork..hmmm....

3. What is a Thanksgiving tradition you and your family have?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the one Thanksgiving day tradition my father (who admittedly didn't follow traditions at all) always without fail followed, was having Thanksgiving Dinner at 3-330 in the afternoon.  My fathers side is hardcore traditional Italian  and so always ate dinner early.  Even though I hated it (then) , I appreciate that he followed that because it was what his parents, and grandparents did.  Now, I spend the holidays with my in-laws and they eat dinner around 4 (which is still nice). 

4. Show us a favorite Thanksgiving picture(or 5) from years past

Here's where I get deep... The truth is, I dont have any pictures from my childhood (on me). The reason being that I moved 3x by the time I was 11,  and so the pictures that I do have are stored in my inlaws garage. (and no..no scanner..).  I promise you , I was cute.

5. What are you most looking forward to about this Thanksgiving?

Having MiniSirenN try all the different kinds of food.  She's 4, so she's at that fun age where she's trying lots of different things.
